how do i into magic in elden ring?
seems like magic is something you save for boss encounters, but what about all the trash mobs?
are you supposed to use a melee weapon for those or use up all your magic?

get the talisman that gives you fp on kill, that helps. or one of the weapons that does that too if you want.
also, relating to your image, does anyone have that image of all the people in souls multiplayer named "Guts" and none of them look like guts at all? it's very funny but i can't find it - Anonymous

on the topic of gravity sorceries, i think it's dumb that the coolest gravity moves are either restricted to ashes of war or items. rock sling is strong and all but the spells are just simple projectiles at the end of the day, while gravitas and the gravity stone fan are cool aoe attacks

I've literally had this question since Demon's Souls, I don't understand how people play through these long levels with extremely limited ammo that isn't anywhere near enough to take care of every enemy or even most of them. Do sorcerygays just run past half of all enemies?

Demon's Souls had very fast mana regen though? IIRC it was the Royal class's starting headband (silver tiara or something) + a Crescent upgrade path weapon.

usually i just pull half the room then hit them all with 1 spell
occasionally i have to cast a second spell
just choose spells that hit more than one target

Carian Knight Sword and Shield were made for that purpose. Block with shield then do the counter attack for smaller enemies, hurl rocks at larger ones.

That is the case in Dark Souls, but in ER you have enough FP to kill whole levels. You even get flasks back when killing groups. My mage character never used a weapon for the entire playthrough.
But if you feel it's not enough, you can play like in DS and only use magic to thin out dangerous groups of enemies, and just melee sh*tty undeads.- Make sure to level your Mind just enough so that a full flask restores slightly less than your FP pool to not waste it (~40 Mind at max flasks)
- Find the right balance of HP/FP flasks that works for you. Personally I use 8/6 at max flaks.
- Carian sword spells like Carian Slicer are insanely strong and cheap and can be used for awesome battlemage moments.
- At the start of the game, run to Caelid and grab the Meteorite staff. Replace it with the Carian Regal Scepter once it becomes stronger (around +7). Get Lusat's Glintstone staff and use it for bosses or when you need maximum firepower at the cost of extra FP.
- For talismans, you want the two Graven ones, and Magic Scorpion. Last one is free, the "FP on kill" one is a good option if you struggle with FP.
- Obviously, use the Magic-Shrouding tear in your physics flask. Cerulean Hidden tear is usually the best other option, especially for Azur Comet shennanigans, unless you prefer getting some defense.
- Remember to use Lusat or Azur helms when using their respective sorceries.
- Get Night Shard/Comet for those enemy frickers that like dodging every projectile.- Anonymous

How about pure FTH? I've done INT builds many times now, some using more spells or melee than others. I've never done pure FTH though.
I'm not talking about dragonbreath spamming though, that sh*t is boring and trivializes everything in the game.- Anonymous

There's a lot of different themes and cosplays you can do.
Paladin with lightning weapon and lightning spears
Caveman stone chucker
pyro
pyro but black
evil blood cultist
crucible kni***
frenzy flame
order boy with discs of light and stars
stinky boy with poison weapon, mist, rot and pest threads
skyrim gay with dragon breathsFrick, faith is crazy. Sorceries are nothing but blue lasers.

Extremely versatile, you have access to four damage types (Holy, Fire, Lightning and Physical Standard), as well as a ton of utility spells for damage buffs, defense buffs and heals, as well as Madness, Poison and one of the two Rot spells.

No, every time it's always bad and subpar, or extremely broken like Demon Scar to the point that it replaced catalysts entirely.
The only good implementation of mixing catalysts and melee was staves with special melee skills, which was carried over from Ringed City to Elden Ring woth Spinning Weapon, so we may see more of that- Anonymous

If you're of a melee mind, then there are spells that conjure weapons. An early one you can acquire is from the starting zone Limgrave. One of the enemy camps has a scroll. Find it, and take it to Sorceress Selen. Who is also hidden away in Limgrave.(Search well, because I missed her on my first playthrough, I suspect many players don't find her.)
Then, purchase the carian slicer spell off her. That will be your starter weapon. It cost a low amount of FP, so you can rely on it to clear entire zones. So long as you're not stingy with the FP flask allocations.
It does decent damage too, and scales well in damage as you upgrade your staffs. That should be enough to handle trash mobs from the start of the game, from there, I think you can figure out the rest of your magic build. there are a lot of options to choose from, so just test them out and see how they feel. Explore around the world to discover more spell books.
You can carry a proper weapon if you want, but I think it's more fun to hold two wands in both hands. One for melee casting, the other for range casting.

>pick up the Gravitas AOW in Limgrave at the beach behind the tutorial area, put it on a Lordsworn's SS or something
>pump INT and VIG, VIG depends on how much you get hit, for me 30 was good enough to stop at until later
>rush Ranni's quest line to get the Dark Moon Greatsword, yes you need to beat Rennala, Radahn and Astel just with Lordsworn's SS + Rock Sling, Mimic Tear will be a huge help however
>finally get DMGS, build should be something like 16 STR 80 INT,40+ VIG, MND and END are up to personal preference
>talismans are Godfrey Icon and Shard of Alexander, Axe Talisman does NOT work (I mean it does work but only point blank and the damage increase is only like 25 points lmao)
>just spam DMGS to 1-2 shot every enemy, it's FAR better than any spell, and you can keep your MND at 20 because it's so FP efficient, saving you a LOT of points
>kill Morgott in 6 sec literally just by spamming charged R2's over and over
>late game I pretty much only used charged Comets to thin out enemy ranks
>don't forget that Mimic has INFINITE FP, so feel free to memorize all the OP big boy spells for her to spam them willy-nilly- Anonymous

Unrelated to ER.
But remember in Dark Souls Pyromancy being this primitive type of magic so it didn't need faith or int???
Why the frick this was changed in later games FRICK YOU MIYAZAKY- Anonymous

Because having free pyromancy on all builds was moronic. Game balance is more important than lore.
